I've finally created the first level in my game! After spending time iterating on the core gmae mechanics and planning out sections in my game, ive created level numero uno. I know some people say you should create the tutorial last, but i wanted it to feel completely coherent with the rest of the game and not feel tacked on. It also allows me to get playtesters into the game in the fastest way possible, without having to explain everything.

New art, remade level from modular pieces. It's like playing with LEGO!

  • Crafted wall and floor panels, and whipped up some simple textures

  • Boosted some player feedback with interactions

  • Started doodling the blueprint for level 2

  • Scenes now load with some screenfades

  • Dialogue localization & tools-because everyone deserves a good laugh

  • Probably 100 other tiny things that I forgot to write down

To-do list (things that keep me up at night):

  • Playtest the tutorial with players to get feedback & iterate (a.k.a. find out what I messed up)

  • Add some extra dialogue when players wander into certain areas of the tutorial to give some more context (presure plate intro, gravity gun shootout)

  • Revamp dialogue so it's even wittier - I want a sarcastic Alien AI with Glados vibes

  • Finish doodling the blueprint for level 2

  • Create a storyboard for the first-timer user experience cinematic (set the scene and give context, with a pinch of drama)

I'm restricting myself to a local multiplayer experience using Steam's Remote Play Together for online multiplayer capabilities. This means I'm sticking with Steam for now, but hey, at least I won't be losing sleep over multiplayer networking... yet.
